Rejoice always! Pray constantly. Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Don’t stifle the Spirit. Don’t despise prophecies, but test all things. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

1. First, rejoice always can be very difficult. How can we rejoice when life keeps throwing curve balls? A piece of machinery (car, dishwasher, computer, etc.) breaks, an illness won’t go away, unresolved conflict and on and on. I know it’s hard to remember this, but God really is in control. He is waiting with you as you go through these difficult times.

2. Pray constantly—When we get into the habit of talking with Jesus on a regular basis, this becomes quite easy.

3. Give thanks in everything—This really is God’s will for you no matter how difficult, hard, frustrating, emotionally-draining, or anything else. God is in control.

4. Don’t stifle the Spirit—Listen to His Word. Really listen. He is sometimes screaming for us. We just need to listen. His Spirit will guide us on good paths if we will just listen.

5. Don’t despise prophecies—Another way to look at this is, don’t despise truth. Truth is not always easy to hear, but that does not change the fact that it is truth. No matter how painful it is to obey truth, it is always the best.

6. Hold on to what is good—As we test the truth, those that are good, we need to keep. Don’t let go of what is good.

7. Stay away from every kind of evil—There are a lot of forms of evil in our society. When we stop despising truths, we will see much more of the evil. We will, then, be able to avoid it and stay away from it.

God has made you good. Stay on His path and let Him guide you. It will always be best that way. It is just hard for us to not be the boss. You can do it, and so can I.

In His Service,

Pastor Todd
