Why isn't the resurrection on our minds all the time?

Matt 28: 5-7 Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.  He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.  Then go quickly and tell His disciples,  ‘He has been raised from the dead.

This month we celebrate Easter. It’s March 29. We will do all the fun and exciting things that we do at church for Easter.  But my question is this, why don’t we start thinking about Easter before that Sunday?  Why isn’t the resurrection on our minds all the time?  I chose this passage in Matthew because it makes some great statements.

First, I think everyone is looking for Jesus. They don't always know that they're looking for Jesus. They look for fulfillment through careers, houses, success, addictions, etc.  But in reality, they are looking for fulfillment that can only come through Jesus Christ.  In the church we gets caught on the empty tomb, crucifixion, all of that.  And yes, I do believe that those are important aspects of what Jesus provided for us.  We forget that our commandment and commission is to tell people about him.  We are the messengers who bring the name of Jesus to the lost world. We are the missionaries that bring hope, change, and fulfillment to people’s lives through Jesus Christ.

That last section of this passage says, “then go quickly and tell his disciples.” That is something we should be doing. We should be telling each other and enjoying discussions about Jesus.  Jesus shouldn't be the thing that we take out of our closet on the weekend to celebrate and then put back in the closet for the rest of the week.  In fact, in this passage the context around these women is that they waited during the weekend so that they could get to the tomb at the beginning of the week.  They were anxious for the beginning of the week to start.

The last thing from this passage is this. . .The resurrection.  We have eternal life because Jesus was raised from the dead. We have a hope of eternal life, a place in heaven, because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  That is the joy of His Salvation. We have that future hope. We have that destination to look forward. That should be our motivation to tell others about Jesus.

Let’s celebrate Easter the entire month of March. But, let’s continue on throughout this year.
