What does your 2013 look like?

For you will not leave in a hurry, and you will not have to take flight; because the Lord is going before you, and the God of Israel is your rear guard.  Isaiah 52:12

What does your 2013 look like?  Does it look bright?  Are you looking forward to the New Year?  Maybe you have a few things figured out in your life for the upcoming year, and you are excited about having a plan.  Maybe you have some things resolved in your relationships, and you have a positive outlook on that area of our life.  What ever it is know this:  “The Lord is going before you.”  No matter how things go in their directions, God has them figured out.

I can take comfort in knowing that God has my front.  The Bible gives many examples of the Lord going before the Israelites, in battle or peace.  God provided direction for them.  He does that for us as well.  When we are watching the direction God gives us, we stay on His path.  It might not be the easiest sometimes, but it makes us develop into the people God desires us to be.

I am excited about 2013 and the growth He has for Riverwood both as a church and individually.  I am writing this on New Year’s Eve.  After today, 2012 will be history.

How was last year for you?  Did you have some successes? Do you remember them?  Did you also have some failures?  Can you forget them?  The passage in Isaiah also says, “…the God of Israel is your rear guard.”  He has your past taken care of.  It is in the past, so stop fretting over it.

This knowledge gives me peace.  God does not hold my past failures against me.  He has removed them “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12).  So, I can also stop beating myself up over what is in the past.  Jesus has given us victory from our past.  We can learn from our past, not bruise ourselves with it.

2013 looks to be a great year.  Jesus is still on His throne.  God is still in control.  And, people still need Jesus in their life.  I am looking forward to God’s harvest.  I hope you are too.
