Getting Involved helps you more than those you are serving

Getting involved helps you more than those you are serving

And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other,  and all the more as you see the day drawing near. – Hebrews 10: 24-25

Does the world seem to be at a faster pace than, say, five years ago?  I think back to when I was a kid, and I remember older adults saying that time seems to speed up the older you get.  I would agree with that, but I am hearing it from 25 year olds.  I see it in the faces of teenagers.  How do we slow down?  The title of this article would seem to scream just the opposite.  Well, let me try to explain.

I want to quiet those of you who are already disconnecting from the article.  I am not asking for more helpers for Kidz Day Camp.  I am not encouraging you to pray about what new ministry you need to start.  No, I am talking to you about being connected to the Riverwood family.  It is easy to get too much distance from God by our busy, busy lives.  Church is an easy way to close that distance.  We are able, at church, to talk with others who have an eternal perspective.  We can become familiar with families in our church on a consistent basis, and we don’t have to schedule are dinner or get-together.   It’s already planned.

Connecting at church with God and His people help us to prioritize what has eternal value in our lives.  It helps us see the things in our lives that take too much time for too little return.  I think we do a LOT of good things, but what are the best things in our lives.  Those are the things we should be pursuing.  A relationship with Jesus needs to be at the top of that list.

Like the verse says, “let us be concerned about one another”.  I am concerned about the flock that God has in my life.  I would enjoy seeing your lives balanced and whole.  I would be thrilled to see more joy in your life.  I would thank Jesus, because it is all Him, as you grow closer to Him.  Thank you for reading.

In His Service,
