Endurance with godliness

2 Peter 1: 3-8 His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. By these He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Endurance with godliness is that focus Jesus gives us as we have, through Him, gained goodness, knowledge, self-control, and endurance. Now we can more fully focus on God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit. We are beginning to see that the Lord is good all the time. We might still have missteps (after all we are human), but just like when we were children and we fell. We would get up and run to Mom or Dad. When we sin, we, now, run right to Jesus. Have you ever seen a child get hurt and run away from their Mom or Dad? Then, why do we do that to Jesus? He is the only one the can heal our spiritual injuries (forgive our sins).

Endurance with godliness is having that rhythm in our lives that pulls us toward Christ. Yes, we misstep, but we now have a hunger or a desire for fellowship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We have fallen in love with Jesus. We read His Word to us like a love letter from our girlfriend or boyfriend. We save them. We treasure them. We ponder some of the words we have read from His letter.

Endurance with godliness is, again, that focus. Lastly, we begin to see the goodness that gives us His knowledge. That knowledge has lent to us His self-control. Through His self-control we have endurance to finish His race. Godliness is more fruition of our faith. The more we taste of God’s goodness the more we desire His fruit. This passage is exciting, because we have His promise more sure through the words of Paul. This is awesome.
